This week Ms. Dawn and Ms. Hanvey double teamed for a special activity. They came into the classroom and helped us carve our pumpkin. The children used the device to choose what shaped eyes, nose, and mouth they wanted their pumpkin to have. Ms. Dawn let everyone play and explore with the gooey inside and use tongs to pull the seeds out. Then we made "sensory" bags for children to explore that were not excited about using their hand to explore the pumpkin guts (can't say I blame them). Below you can see all the different steps of the kids working together to make the jack-o-lantern. It was a super fun activity. Also pictured below you will see our therapy dog Rosie came in for a quick visit. She wanted us to all see her trick or treating outfit! She even made it into a magazine!
This past Friday, FLS kiddos got a special treat. Graduate students from UNC-Central in Speech/Language pathology came out to the school and planned a fun filled morning. They worked with Ms. Hanvey and created several communication boards to be used with devices for the kids to talk with during all their activities. The day started out with everyone introducing themselves, moved into an obstacle course, and finally a dance party. Needless to say the kids had a blast. It is so enriching that we have so many campuses here in Raleigh and that so many of them come and take a part in working with Frankie Lemmon students. Hope you enjoy the pictures below! Here are some fun pictures from last week. We finally are getting some Fall weather to get out there and enjoy! We are so fortunate to have Jeanne and Rosie come to visit us throughout the year. Jeanne is Rosie's adoptive mommy and Rosie is trained in "reading" and "working" with young children, a fully certified therapy dog. As you can see from the pictures below the children were delighted to see Rosie. She did all kinds of tricks such as spinning, giving high fives, and turning pages in a book. For children that were not as comfortable touching Rosie the brush was available and then even toy version of Rosie to snuggle with. All of the children learned the importance of using gentle touches and remembering to keep their hands away from Rosie's eyes and mouth. We also talked about how we should always ask the owner before we pet any animal to make sure it is safe for the child and the animal. This is such a rewarding experience for the kids. I think their favorite part was getting kisses from Rosie and giving her treats. Look at all these little cutie-pies playing with all the farm stuff! They are really having a grand time. Even though we were not able to actually visit the farm (still hoping that will be rescheduled) we had fun exploring it here. The kids favorite part has been absolutely making all the animal sounds. This class loves to be silly and keep me an Ms. B smiling all of the time. Our first color show-n-tell was a success. Remember that each week that is held on Wednesdays as part of our language group. The color each week is at the top of the daily sheet by "color of the week." I love what you all sent in so far and you can see from the expressions on the kids faces that they were so excited to see things from their house and get to share it with their friends. |
