It seems this week has been a whole lot of celebrating! Not to worry, we have been getting plenty of time in there also to work on goals, read books, and do activities :) Most of our snack times, however have been surrounding celebrations....so I wanted to mention those here. First off this week we celebrated Ms. Lori's birthday. She has been a weekly volunteer with us for 4 years (ever since her daughter Kelsey (Terrific 3s) student taught with me) She adores the kids and we all adore her! She is so humble and is probably embarrased that I am writing about her but she is terrific and deserves some praise. Below is a fun shot from her birthday party. Also, we celebrated sweet Matthew's birthday. He turned 6 years old this week! We love you being in our class, Matthew. Finally, we had a farewell party for Ms. Linda Taylor. Many of you guys have met LInda. She has been our afternoon assistant for 10+ years! She is such an asset to our staff and we are going to miss her so much! She is taking a leave to take care of some family stuff so please keep her in your thoughts. But she promises not to be a stranger! Enjoy the pics below and have a fantastic Thanksgiving! We look forward to posting more fun after the holiday!
This week our Ravenscroft pals came to visit us at Frankie Lemmon. The children loved showing their big buddies around the classroom and playing with them outside. Another cool treat was Mark's mom came in to celebrate his birthday and read a book. I am not sure what was most fun for them...eating a giant piece of chocolate birthday cake or singing to Mark. We have such joyful kids and they love each other so much! It is so sweet to watch them celebrate one another. Thanks so much for sharing them with us daily!
November is a continuation of our Fall fun. This week we have had all kinds of activities. We started out the week with a school wide treat! Ms. Jo Allen, president of Meredith College came and read Stone Soup to the kids. Then they enjoyed grilled cheese sandwiches and delicious veggie soup for lunch. (Thank you Ms. Suzann for organizing) Ms. Ashley Kate, our Meredith intern, also set up fun activities in the dramatic play area. She hosted a small "party." In the pictures below you can see the children enjoying dressing up for the party, creating invitations, and decorating. What a fun treat for all. Ms. Bass and Ms. Jenn also kept the kids busy creating lots of beautiful Fall trees. We have been talking about the weather turning colder and how the leaves on the trees are changing from green to orange, yellow, red, and brown. At the end of all the pictures you will see a slideshow of some of the classroom areas that have been changed out for November. There is a big emphasis on food because of the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday and also our emphasis on how food changes from the farm (what we talked about last month) to how it looks on our table. It is quite different and though many of the kids recognize animals like the cow it is very abstract to think that the milk we drink comes from cows. Another example is what corn looks like on our plates versus the way it looks growing in the field or in our case around our scarecrows. With lots of topics to discuss and fun activities to do November will surely be an exciting month! Friday was a fun filled day here at FLS. We all got dressed up...staff included (see pics below) and visited various rooms around the church to go "trick or treating." We had a vast array of costumes from Elsa to Ninja Turtles to even little Charlotte (Sellers grand-puppy) as a bumblebee. At the end of the day we had a "Fall Feast." Really it was just a party but we always have a plethora of food, which everyone enjoyed. Thanks to all of you for sending in costumes, party food, and coming to take part in our day. Enjoy the pics below :) |
